Rap artist Kaoz' anticipated album is now officially available for purchase as a digital release for the low price of $5 through his website, kaoz.bandcamp.com.

For those not in the know, we've highlighted the artist several times in the pages of Discreet City. Nick Delmacy previously posted an honest, unbiased review of both the artist and the music (more on that later) and the musician was also named Discreet City's Best Gay Artist of 2011. Since that time Kaoz has released a few music videos including one for the new single, "High Az Eva" from EnterSextions Vol. 1 released today.

The Discreet City team had a chance to sit down and talk with Kaoz in a new podcast where they previewed new music and got an uncensored view of the rapper's opinions on sex, drug use and being openly Gay in the black community. Kaoz even got to respond to Nick's harsh criticism of confusing lyrics and a certain tear-filled Youtube interview. Overall it was a great discussion filled with tough questions and great music.

I have not heard too much of the "gay rap/hip-hop" music but I really respect what Kaoz's views are and I appreciate the fact that he is passionate about leaving something behind in this world. I like how passionate he is about life and his music and his definition of success is one that I think more people should be more aware of it.

As for how more people can know about Discreet City, I think that maybe you guys could do more posts and video blogs about some mainstream issues in politics, sports, religion, and some other current events. I think that you guys can make yourselves more visible in this "digital age" where social media really allows you to reach people all over the world. But also stay true to yourselves... people do deserve to see the good that you all are doing with this blog. I hope that you guys can find ways to brand yourselves and make connections with other people that are not necessary black and gay.

S/O to Lauryn Hill ;-) I love that album!

The "no strings attached" song is an interesting take on a huge part of gay culture. It is something how many gay men use the hook-up sites to find sex. I think it comes from our sexual urges having to be repressed. We want to find some outlet aside from pornography and masturbation to see what we really want out of sex (and out of life).

I remember listening to that song "high as eva" and I did not get it! But it sounded nice and I like how an independent artist made a quality video :-) It sort of remind me of listening to Frank Ocean's album, 'Channel Orange'.. I enjoy it but a lot of the times I am wondering what is the message behind this track?? I do appreciate it though.

Wow... "bukkake" that is ummmm... interesting to say the least. I guess what Nick and Ocky brought up with Kaoz is what music journalists and special correspondents have for mainstream rappers. There is an image or idea that seems to be promoted that is out of sync with the person's real life. It is tough but what I learned when I was pretty much anti-rap, was to try and appreciate the rapper's stories that they try and depict. I see where Kaoz is coming from.

When I read about articles talking about online profiles, I can't believe what I see. I hear what you guys say, other articles I see... I think you're speaking the truth. I think people need to stop making these unrealistic lists. People will end up all alone like Chilli from TLC (a la her reality show: 'What Chilli Wants' from VH1). I believe that if people want love, then they need to search for love... not search for things that come and go... not things that people value like power, money or sex appeal. Don't get me wrong - I do have standards and we all want someone who takes care of himself and is handsome and is confident. We should look for more of the things like honesty and humor instead of only a pretty face, nice 6-pack body and a huge (oh no he didn't try and say that)!

That spoken word was on point!

As always guys, this was a great interview and I can't wait to see more guests that you guys will interview in the future.

I really enjoyed this listening to this interview. Kaoz is a Gem as far I am concerned. I am inspired by his passion and commitment to his art and the Black Gay Community. I agree with you, that some of his work is sophisticated ... but that is exactly what sets him apart and why he should be encouraged to expand... rather than hold back. I also, commend him for being able to effectively defend his work, especially if it seem to others... as a contradiction of his responsibility as an activist and HIV educator. One my professors once told me. " If you want to write a good murder mystery... you are going have to commit murder... and get away with it ",

I'll check out the podcast on my road trip this weekend.

I buy my digital music from Amazon MP3 Store. It's easy for me because I have an account, plus an app on my smart phone. I tried searching for the new album on Amazon with no success. I did see "High Az Eva" but not the new material :-(

Forgive me for posting this comment before listening to the podcast, but I'm trying to quickly compile some tunes for my weekend driving.
I don't know if "EnterSextions" has even been released yet.

Dude, the VERY FIRST paragraph of this post says where the album is available, lol. Not every indie artist can easily get on Amazon or iTunes quickly. I purchased a copy from Kaoz' website and was sent a link to download all of the MP3's which I easily imported into my iTunes. Simple. Only $5. It's worth it.

lol I honestly didn't see the link as I was rushing to get things done. As I mentioned, I always shop at Amazon, so without thinking twice, I mistakenly assumed his album would be there.. But no worries, I went to Bandcamp and purchased the album for twice the retail. Looking forward to checking it out. Thanks.

LOL No worries, I'm sure Kaoz appreciates that and will be anxious to hear your thoughts on the whole project.

“Thought is a vital dynamic power existing in the universe. Thought passes from one man to another. It influences people. A man of powerful thought can influence people of weak thought”.

I read a feature you wrote about KAOZ a couple of years ago. I wanted so bad, to step in and check you on some claims you made concerning attractiveness and talents. Well Nick, I chose not to say anything back then because I would have appeared invasive and argumentative. But this recent interview you did on KOAZ has made me feel inclined to place you in checkmate right here.
Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson… are they successful by your standards? Do you consider Nikki Minaj attractive and talented? I ask because there are notables from the Hip Hop upper enchalant that have often implied that she is un-attractive and un-talented; but YOU better not tell her that. By the same token, countless individual have become successful against all odds. Sorry Bro, but your claims on talent and attractiveness are bias and indicative of reverse homophobia. One of those, NO FATS, NO FEMS, and NO Gay’s ad, you really need to apologize and take that shit down. Your “Thought Wave” is perpendicular, and it separates one from the following spiritual principals: hope, faith, unity, joy, peace and love.

Second, you touched on an interview that you found on YOUTUBE. Now, I remember that interview. KAOZ was not just crying… HE FELL INTO PIECES… literally. That video is what prompted me to reach out and to offer him a collaboration and to assist him with his cause. You may or not be aware of this, but looks and talents, fall short of being of honest. Unlike your kind, gay men in my age range with $5, $10, $15, maybe $20, in our pockets won’t hold that video against him. Also, I can provide numerous references where " Str8 Rapper's” expressed their tear filled emotions publicly. 50 cents, Kyan, and LLcool J, all have reacted emotionally before their audiences. Why is it that KAOZ cannot express his emotions without receiving condemnation from the hierarchy? I am not saying that I am right and you are wrong. What I am saying is, you attempted to judge KAOZ through your personal lens and form an opinion as to whether or not that aspect of his character represents a contradiction within the Hip Hop culture, the gay community and the larger powers that be?

Third, you prose that KAOZ lacks focus. Hummm…umm…ummm. Huh…ok.
Well, I speak for me. I was taught; in order for you or me or any other individual to assimilate the difference between confusion and understanding (schizophrenic) he or she must posses the “ NEED” to dig deeper into its causes and effects. For example, in" High AZ EVA” the lyrics begins with " Puffing on the gateway ", reminiscent of taking off. Me leaving home as a young gay man to get out into the world and to find my way. Subsequently, the situations he sang about; sexuality, drugs, risk-taking and these other un-talked about aspects of gay life, intertwined and interrupt my story. I had no problem relating to content of his lyrics. Forging on, I truly appreciated how he used the command of “ Narrative mode” a formal writing structure applied in English Literature,
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrative_mode). Suffice it to say, there are demons that seek to destroy us inside and outside of the gay community. In “ Thieves In The Temple” he provides a primetime example of this. We need to take heed of the reality that everything that looks good and feels good, is not good; there are scary things hiding inside and behind HIV intervention, education, and prevention. KAOZ’s work should prompt these boys…and if they don’t have a “ NEED” to dig deeper, than they won’t ask questions nor will they find answers. They will continue to follow the flow from the club to the clinic… trust him. KAOZ humanity and passion for the plight of young gay black men has driven him into dangerous waters of warning them about this. He is FOCUSED.

Lastly, in your latest interview, you called KAOZ out on drugs and promoting risky behavior in the video “High AZ Eva”. Perhaps, you should write this on the wall. If KAOZ is promoting unhealthy behavior then so is nearly the whole of black gay entities. From my viewpoint, I don’t see as much of the lack of responsibility you point out in KAOZ’s music as I see in mainstream Hip Hop. If I were in your shoes, I would have warned him of “discernment” and the importance of being cognitive of the potential backlash that comes alongside of self-expression, rather than question his message.
In closing, throughout this journey entitled " High AZ Eva", Kevin, has somehow made it to the runway in an effort to escape from what reveals itself to me as : his internal conflicts, hints of a

I did not contribute my post to engage you in a show and tell. I hope that's not the impression I gave you. However, if that is the impression left you with, please, accept my humblest apologies and disregard what I had to say.

So I guess that's a "No" to buying his album...Looks like Kaoz was right about who supports his music after all. Shout out to all the people that paid for the album, indie artists need more than just nice words to survive and continue making art.
