WATCH: Kaoz: "High As Ever" Music Video
Discreet City  |  Nicholas Delamcy

Right before the new year, one of favorite openly gay rap artists, Kaoz, has dropped what may be his only music video since January 2012. The song, "High Az Eva", is from his new two volume experimental project EnterSextions. We've been waiting to get word on when (or if) the project would be released soon and Kaoz himself tweeted the news on Christmas Eve.
In other tweets, Kaoz (briefly) explains why the project is broken down into two volumes, why its been delayed and what you should expect from the music. Kaoz was Discreet City's 2011 Best Gay Artist of the Year but has been relatively quiet since then. We've already reached out to him for an exclusive Discreet City interview so you'll all be able to hear the full answers to the aforementioned questions (and more) in due time. Until then, check out the NEW MUSIC VIDEO "High Az Eva" and select tweets about his new project "EnterSextions" below.

Wow, that's the melody from the game Chrono Trigger, pretty cool how he mixed that in his song.

Nice video, I have to admit it was pretty romantic when Kaoz was kissing that Latin boy's hand lol.

I stopped listening at the chorus line. If you're gonna promote drug use and reckless sex, atleast give me a decent track and chorus line that will have me bumpin that shyt in my ride.

I like his flow alot however, but I need a joint to come at me and get my attention.. Oh and another thing. It's so typical (and non surprising) to see the "love interest" as someone other than BLACK! But hey, our heterosexual counterparts put racially ambiguous hoes in their videos too, so I guess it's all good right...? NO.

Blk Pegasus - I appreciate the feedback. However, further listening might have clued you into the metaphor or increased awareness behind what you "thought" you heard. Yes this song is about hooking up, but it's also about appreciating a "love without title". This couple has a common love for a substance that brings them together. Over time they have developed true love and affection for one another within a dating construct that is not the norm, but works for them nonetheless. If you would have listened further, a fear of committment, resentment and past hurt keeps them in this place of safety - hooking up. It's "safe". Friends that care deeply for one another, but are not committed or bound by a "title" or societal construct. The chance for somethng more fades away as well once the "recreational" activity they share is done. "reckless sex" may be what you are used to hearing from other rappers w/o point, however the examples of intimacy provided in this track are in no way pervasive, but serve as markers that help bring another point home. I don't like to give folks my intentions with video - I love to allow the audience to make their own mind, but in this case the critique is incomplete because the audience member has not listened to the complete work. I totally respect a person's right to not like it at all and tune out. But I do think it's quite unfair and pointless if a person is overly critical about something that they in all actuality have no complete reference for.

Lastly, and I knew this was coming - The reason why the opposite roles in my video are held by two Non - BLACK BY BLACK FOLKS STANDARDS - actors/actresses is because the original choices for roles did not show up to film when they said they would. So, if we want to start a convo about how me or my str8 counterparts cast videos, then maybe some of our brothers and sisters need to get the message that time and profession waits for no one. These folks were able to come in, get the job done, with integrity, professionalism and flair. If anyone insist I deal with ignorance and unprofessional people in order to deliver a product that will appease the classic "whoa everyone hates the black man" rhetoric that many live in accordance to, for sake of an image - then I apologize in advance. I refuse to live my life or allow outsiders' personal crusades to drive my product.

Give it a full listen, or totally block it out from now on - you have a choice. But know that an incomplete listen or absorption will never feel like satisfying experience...it's half assed. And all subsequent thoughts, critiques and opinions about it become half assed as well.

Getting slightly off topic: I think honing in on non-black casting of the video is kinda superficial. Don't get me wrong, I understand the issues and sensitivity that this brings up in some people. To some it sends the signal that: Light is Right, Black is Wack. However, in a world where our President is bi-racial, why is interracial dating still seen as taboo or a slap in the face to some. Lastly, casting multi-culturally is just plain smart business for marketing reach. That's a whole topic for a Discreet City article in itself.
