Here it is; PART 3 of "Trying to Get into Shape and Lose Fat"!

In this post you will find tips 8 through 10.

8. Focus on Proper Form and Stretching

The gym can already be intimidating for some, so mix that in with the feeling of competition and testosterone and it can be a recipe for injuries.  Starting out, focus on using proper form to do the exercises in your work out plan.  The increase in how much weight you can lift will come later.  Don’t try to be Hercules or over compensate for your short comings.  Proper form when exercising is essential for reaping the benefits of what you are attempting to accomplish.

Stretching before, during and after your work out is also very important.  You want to make sure your joints and muscles have adequate blood flow which will help in reducing injury but can also lead to lifting more weight during your exercises.

The gym is not a place for competition and grand standing.  Focus on you and becoming in tune with your body versus showing off and trying to be seen.

Well as promised, PART 2 of "Trying to Get into Shape and Lose Fat" is now here!  In this post you will find tips 5 through 7.

5. Without DWP you are NOTHING!

     Discipline and Will Power

Do you have the discipline and will power necessary to achieve your fitness goals?  You better…because if you don’t, you will fall short or fail!  What ever fitness goals you set for yourself you have to go all in.  That means being able to tell yourself, “Hey going out for pizza and beer may not be in my best interest right now.  There will be time for that later.”  You don’t want to tell yourself…”No or I can’t” have pizza and beer because believe it or not over time you may rebel, get frustrated and sabotage yourself.  (Yes, our minds and subconscious are crazy things).

So have the Discipline and Will Power (DWP) to set limits, guidelines and cheat days in advance for yourself.

Look, you may have been eating crappy for a large part of your life.  With your new lifestyle change why not just try to go 30 days without pizza or hot wings?  Then after the 30 days have a tame cheat day.

Pizza and chicken wings have existed before you were born and will be here after you die…you will have plenty of time to enjoy these things in moderation AFTER you have reached your fitness goals.  So remember DWP when there is birthday cake at the office party at work.  There will be plenty of time for cake after you reach your fitness goals.  Remember DWP when your friends want you to come over for drinks.  Alcohol and liquor will be there when you reach and surpass your fitness goals.  Believe me; you will be able to do all these things in moderation when you accomplish what you set out to do.

_One of our new goals for this website in 2012 is to report on any and all representations of gay/bisexual men of color in the media. Last year we laid the groundwork by highlighting examples in Television, Film, Books and Music. In the coming weeks we'll be making a few changes to the site, including creating a specific section that consolidates all of these media updates to make them easier for you to find.

_A few weeks ago the Canadian television network CTV launched a new 6-episode series called, "The L.A. Complex." Here's the official synopsis:

The L.A. Complex follows the lives of twenty-somethings living in the same apartment complex in L.A. trying to make it as actors, dancers, producers and comedians. Relationships begin and end, the need to succeed is tested and all characters are pushed to their breaking points.

To our surprise, the "twenty-something" characters in question include two attractive African American gay/bisexual men.

_Trying to Get Into Shape and Lose Fat – Maybe I Can Help You

Let me say that this may be a longer post than normal due to the subject matter, so it will be broken up into three separate posts.  This post is Part 1.

Part 1...
An interesting statistic that I wrote in a previous post was that “22% of people give up on their New Year’s Resolution in the first week and by the end of March more than 50% will have completely quit their resolutions.”

With losing weight being one of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions amongst the general public and unquestionably amongst gay men; some of us may be struggling to accomplish this goal.

As I also stated in my other post; I think the reason some of us fall off the wagon is because we either don’t set accurate or realistic goals and we don’t perhaps take into consideration the level of discipline or will power it will take to accomplish our resolutions.

We need to make sure we set realistic measurable goals for our resolutions.  With losing weight or getting into shape being the obvious topic here; maybe I can provide you some assistance.

Let me give a quick background on myself when it comes to this topic.

_Movie Review: Young Soul Rebels

To sum up this movie in one word..."HORRIBLE".

Look I know we have a limited selection in the Black Gay Cinema department but it seems like I always have the same feelings, thoughts and questions after seeing a black gay movie like Young Soul Rebels...and some of those feelings, thoughts and questions are...

-Really?
-How in the hell did they get funding for this wack shit?
-What was the director thinking?
-Did they read the script before they started filming?
-Really?
-Wait, who wrote the script?
-Let me fast forward to the end?
-Wait, this is how the movie ended?
-Huh?
-I cant believe I wasted my time with this crap!

Some of you may be wondering about what is SOPA and why some websites like Google are imposing a black out on themselves in protest against this bill.

The video below discusses the Senate version of the House's Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).  In the Senate the bill is called the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA). SOPA has gotten more attention than PIPA because it was moving faster in the legislative process. But PIPA is just as dangerous, and now it is moving faster.

PIPA would give the government new powers to block Americans' access to websites that corporations don't like. The bill lets corporations and the US government censor entire websites and cut sites off from advertising, payments and donations.

This legislation will stifle free speech and the type of topics and converstations we discuss here at DiscreetCity.com

It will also interfear with creativity, innovation, and even threaten popular web services like Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook.

The bill is scheduled for a test vote in the Senate on Jan. 24th: We need to act now to let our lawmakers know just how terrible it is. Will you fill out the form to ask your lawmakers to oppose the legislation and support a filibuster?

_Your New Year's Resolutions – Are you still on Track?

I purposely waited to do this post because a couple of things have already happened since making your resolutions for 2012.  Either you are still commented to your goals or you have already quit or fallen short.

A recent study found that 22% of people give up on their resolution in the first weekand by the end of March more than 50% will have completely quit their resolutions.

The most popular resolutions are, stop smoking, saving money and of course losing weight.

I think the reason some of us fall of the bandwagon is because we either don’t set proper or realistic goals and we don’t perhaps take into consideration the level of discipline or will power it will take to accomplish our resolutions.

_Every year I can't wait for the images to come out of the Detroit Auto Show.

From the latest model cars, to the luxury posh rides, and the futuristic concepts.  The Detroit Auto never fails to deliver on the goods.

One of the highlights this year is the re-release of the Dodge Dart.  The Dart was a hit back in the 60’s and 70’s.

With the re-release Dodge hopes to capture some new sales with a under $20k price point starting at $16,000. Dodge is stating it should get 40 mpg highway.

This is a competitive price against leaders like the Hyundai Elantra, Chevy Cruze and Ford Focus; but with the Hyundai Elantra now given the honors of the 2012 Car of the Year, Dodge has some ground to make up.

Below are some of the goodies from this years show along with a video of African American President and CEO of Dodge's SRT brand Ralph Gilles.  Enjoy!

_Ask yourself this question…”If you died alone at home, how long would it take for someone to find your body?”

This question arose after reading an article about a docudrama titled Dreams of a Life involving a black woman in London by the name of Joyce Carol Vincent, who died in her apartment while wrapping Christmas gifts.

The really tragic part is that her body was not found for three years

This had me thinking about my not so distant past and some of the gay men I have come across in my life.  Why you ask?
